The traditional Chinese coming-of-age ceremony for freshman took place in the Academic Report Hall on November 20th. Dressed in Hanfu (traditional Chinese attire), students marked this milestone of youth amid classical melodies.
President Han Xiqing attended and delivered an address, encouraging students to:
Cultivate a skill-based dedication to the nation and embrace the pride of future professionals;
Hone excellence-driven craftsmanship to refine a pure spirit of mastery;
Uphold virtue and skill in harmony as the foundation for lifelong happiness.
Honorary guests bestowed courtesy names upon students (a traditional rite symbolizing aspirations) and performed the capping (for males) and hairpinning (for females) rituals for 20 Hanfu-clad student representatives. Participants thanked the guests, paid respects to parents remotely, and saluted teachers. Over 300 students took a collective oath, demonstrating their resolve to contribute to national development with youth and talent.
Subsequently, the students of Guoxue (Traditional Chinese Studies) Club showcased Hanfu, highlighting the elegance and allure of traditional Chinese attire. Yang Ping, founder of the Qingdao Etiquette Association, delivered a lecture titled Coming of Age and Self-Renewal: An Analysis of the Profound Meaning of the Coming-of-Age Ceremony, exploring its cultural significance.
This ceremony exemplifies our commitment to integrating outstanding traditional Chinese culture into education. By nurturing virtue through rituals, it imprinted deep cultural memories and a sense of national pride on students at this pivotal life stage.
