Hosted by the Three Teachings Reform( The Three Teachings refers to Teachers, Teaching Materials, and Teaching Methods.) Alliance of Shandong Vocational Colleges and organized by the college, the AI + Vocational Education Innovation and Development Conference was successfully held in an online format on December 30.
Experts, scholars, frontline teachers and educational administrators from more than 40 vocational colleges across Shandong Province gathered online to conduct in-depth discussions centering on the core theme of Empowering the High-quality Development of Vocational Education with AI.
Diao Hongbin, Secretary of the Party Committee of the college, attended the conference and delivered a speech. He pointed out that China’s vocational education is currently in a critical stage of accelerating its transformation from a promising sector to a high-achieving one, and AI is reshaping the landscape of education with unprecedented depth and breadth.
Secretary Diao emphasized that the Alliance should accelerate its transformation and upgrading, evolving from a platform for experience exchange into a vocational education research think tank with policy influence, academic leadership and practical driving force. He highlighted three key development directions: strengthening theoretical guidance and policy advocacy, building a high-quality platform for achievement exchanges, and promoting organized scientific research and collaborative innovation.
For its next-stage work, the Alliance will adhere to a problem-oriented approach to serve industrial upgrading, prioritize the systematic capacity building of teachers, strengthen collaborative linkage to build an integrated ecosystem, and uphold the fundamental principle of nurturing talents to guard against the risks of technological alienation.
Wang Xinbo, Director of the Research Department of the National Institute of Education Sciences, delivered a keynote speech titled How to Conduct Feasible and Applicable Research Projects. He elaborated on the essence, functions and approaches of educational scientific research, and provided guidance on improving research literacy from three dimensions: aligning with national strategies, grounding in practical needs, and fostering a robust research environment.
Director Wang stressed that project application requires thorough research on national policies, in-depth understanding of application guidelines and emphasis on solid research foundations. He noted that solid research can enhance the success rate of project applications, and researchers should focus on tangible outcomes to achieve the goal of integrating research with practice, producing feasible and applicable results that serve educational practice and decision-making.
Professor Wang Xin, Director of the Academic Committee of the college, presented a work report titled 2025 Alliance Work Report on AI + Vocational Education Teaching Reform Projects. She revealed that the Alliance received 197 project applications from over 40 colleges and universities across the province this year, with 80 projects ultimately approved. Among these, 70 projects have successfully passed the acceptance inspection.
Professor Wang pointed out that the approved projects have yielded fruitful results in four key areas: teacher competence and professional development, the reconstruction of teaching models and curriculum systems, evaluation reform and risk governance, and the integration of industry and education as well as the innovation of talent training systems. She suggested that future research should focus on strengthening weak areas such as smart campus governance, AI textbook development, digital equity and full-cycle quality monitoring, with the aim of establishing a closed-loop mechanism covering theory, practice, standards and policies.
The conference announced the list of completed and outstanding projects of the 2025 AI + Vocational Education teaching reform initiative, and showcased the achievements of the outstanding projects.
Representatives from the project teams of Weifang Engineering Vocational College, Shandong Drug and Food Vocational College, Weihai Vocational College and Shandong Vocational College of Information Technology shared their landmark research outcomes.
This conference aimed to implement the strategic deployment of advancing education digitalization and building a learning society as outlined in the Report to the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China. It strives to promote the transition of AI + Vocational Education from a conceptual initiative to practical application, and from exploratory practice to in-depth development.
