The China-ASEAN Culinary Skills Competition 2026 for Vocational College Students was held in Nanning, Guangxi from October 28 to 30.
Co-hosted by the Education Department of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and the Vocational Training Council of Hong Kong, the event was undertaken by Nanning Vocational University and the Guangxi-Hong Kong Modern Vocational Education Development Centre. Our students competed impressively and won one gold and two bronze medals.
A total of 235 contestants from 50 teams across China and ASEAN countries took part in three categories: hot cuisine, Western cuisine and local snacks.
Guided by Li Jun, Wang Shanshan and Chen Peng from the School of Culinary Arts, the team followed the industry-education integration principle of “Enterprises set questions, schools and enterprises work out answers together, and the market evaluates outcomes”. Centered on the goal of promoting teaching, learning and research through competitions, they refined dishes in line with real workplace standards.
Jin Zixi claimed the gold medal in Western cuisine. Fu Yu and Zhang Xiwei won bronze medals in hot cuisine and local snacks respectively. Zhang Xiwei also received the Competition Achievement Transformation Award.
As a flagship event for exchanges in vocational education, professional skills and food culture between China and ASEAN, the competition serves as a key platform for deepening bilateral vocational education cooperation.
These awards showcase our students’ strengths, raise the international recognition of our culinary talent training program, support the international development of our culinary majors, and facilitate the inheritance and innovation of traditional culinary craftsmanship and food culture.
