Recently, the Shandong Provincial People’s Government has formally approved the establishment of the China-Australia Smart Service Industry College at Qingdao Vocational and Technical College of Hotel Management. This marks the tangible delivery of Shandong-Australia education exchange outcomes reached at the end of 2025, representing a new milestone in the college’s international education endeavors.
Under the official approval, the Institute will be jointly set up by our college and Box Hill Institute of TAFE, Australia. It will deliver higher vocational diploma programs, covering four majors: Information Security Technology Application, Smart Health and Elderly Care Service and Management, Western Cuisine Technology, and Modern Property Management. The total student capacity will be 840, with an annual intake of 280 students and the enrolment will commence in 2027. Upon graduation, students will receive a higher vocational diploma issued by our college, together with an Australian vocational qualification or diploma.
Tailored to the development needs of modern service industries in Shandong Province and Qingdao City, the college prioritizes the health and elderly care sector, alongside coordinated programs in information security, modern property management and western culinary arts. It will introduce high-quality Australian vocational education resources and standards, advancing mutual learning and integrated development between Chinese and Australian vocational education. The college aims to cultivate high-calibre technical and skilled talents with global perspectives to support the transformation and upgrading of regional modern service industries.
On 28 November 2025, Secretary Diao Hongbin led a delegation to Australia and signed an MOU with Box Hill Institute in Melbourne. Early in 2026, the two parties agreed to jointly apply for this Sino-foreign cooperative education program. Throughout the application, the college maintained overall coordination with faculties and departments working in tandem. Box Hill Institute attached great importance to the project; its President travelled to China for the defence review and helped polish application documents. After nine months of online consultations, document preparation, an in-person defence and multiple revisions, their joint application was successfully approved.
Building on this approval, the college will strictly comply with the requirements of the official document and push forward the development of the China-Australia Smart Service Industry Institute to high standards, ensuring the first cohort of students enrolls smoothly in 2027. The college will continue to deepen vocational education exchanges and cooperation between China and Australia, comprehensively enhance its teaching capacity and global influence, and make further contributions to opening-up in education and high-quality socio-economic development of the region.
