From May 21 to 24, the 16th National Tourism College Service Skills Competition (Tour Guide Service) concluded successfully in Chongqing. Students from the School of Culture and Tourism of our college strived excellently and won four first prizes in total. Ranking first in the total score of the national vocational college group, our college claimed the group award, marking another remarkable achievement in the competition.

Guided by the China Tourism Association and co-hosted by relevant professional associations and universities, the event is a prestigious brand competition with the widest coverage and great influence in China’s tourism education sector. This year’s competition attracted 645 contestants from 230 colleges and universities across 29 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities, covering secondary vocational, higher vocational and undergraduate education levels.

The competition set up two events: Mandarin Tour Guide Service and English Tour Guide Service. It comprehensively assessed students’ professional competence and literacy through three dimensions: theoretical knowledge assessment, tour guide explanation and talent display.

Eventually, Zhang Shihan and Song Mengya won the first prize in the Mandarin Tour Guide Service event, while Xu Yawen and Zhang Rui won the first prize in the English Tour Guide Service event. The four contestants were highly recognized by the judges for their solid professional knowledge and steady on-the-spot performance.

Over the 16 years since the launch of the competition, our college has delivered outstanding performances consistently. Since 2010, our college has accumulated 32 national first prizes, achieved a grand slam for eight consecutive sessions and ranked first in the total group score for three consecutive sessions. It is the only institution nationwide to attain such achievements, fully demonstrating the outstanding talent cultivation quality of our college’s tourism majors.

The remarkable achievements stem from all-round support and in-depth accumulation in talent cultivation. During the preparation period, college leaders attached great importance to the competition, visiting the school for many times to supervise training and encourage teachers and students. All functional departments coordinated fully to guarantee the smooth progress of training and competitions. The School of Culture and Tourism set up a professional instructor team, selected outstanding student contestants, and provided comprehensive training and logistical support, forming a joint force of school-enterprise collaboration and teacher-student dedication.

After the competition, Diao Hongbin, Secretary of the Party Committee, and Han Xiqing, President of the college, warmly received the award-winning team and held an in-depth forum with them.

The leaders fully affirmed the fruitful achievements made in the competition, pointing out that the excellent results were attributed to the coordinated efforts of the whole college and the in-depth development of vocational education.

They stressed that the college should adhere to the philosophy of promoting learning, teaching, reform and construction through competitions. Closely following the digital transformation trend of the cultural and tourism industry, the college will integrate new industry standards, technologies and scenarios, further improve the integrated talent cultivation system of post, course, competition, certificate and innovation, deepen teaching reform, optimize talent training programs, and strive to cultivate high-quality and skilled compound talents adaptable to the development of the cultural and tourism industry.
