On April 24, the 2026 Shandong College Students Youth Reading Season Exhibition and Exchange Event was held in Weifang. Yu Youpeng, a teacher of the Basic Education Department of the college, delivered an exchange speech, sharing the college’s practices and experience in promoting Putonghua, inheriting Chinese classic recitation, and building a scholarly campus.
With the theme of Embracing Campus Elegance through Reading, Shouldering Youth Responsibility via Shared Reading, the exchange session invited four guest speakers from Shandong University, Shandong Communication & Media College, our college and University of Jinan to share insights on the same stage.
Gathered together with teachers and student representatives from colleges and universities across Shandong Province, they conducted in-depth discussions on the integration of youth and reading, and talked about the nurturing value and cultural empowerment of classic reading for young people’s growth.
The event has built a high-quality platform for universities across the province to foster education through reading, learn from each other and pursue coordinated development.
As a national Putonghua Proficiency Test Examiner recommended by the Language and Character Affairs Division of Shandong Provincial Department of Education, Yu Youpeng based his speech on the college’s educational practices and frontline experience in language education and reading promotion.
He focused on introducing the distinctive education model of the Basic Education Department, which takes classic recitation as the core carrier to consolidate students’ cultural foundation and enhance their humanistic literacy.
He also elaborated on the practical measures adopted by the college’s Language Work Committee to promote Putonghua, improve the standardized language teaching system, and steadily boost students’ ability in language application and standardized expression.
In addition, he presented the innovative achievements of the college library in integrating reading into daily life through promoting nationwide reading, inheriting fine traditional Chinese culture and spreading red classics.
In recent years, the college has taken the construction of a scholarly campus as a key measure to fulfill the fundamental task of fostering virtue through education. It has continuously enriched the connotation of reading practices, innovated reading promotion methods, and integrated classroom teaching, campus culture and practical education.
By fostering a campus atmosphere that encourages active reading, the college guides young students to cultivate their minds, enrich their inner world and refine their character in the fragrance of books.
