The final of the 19th Hismile Cup Oral English Contest, led by the Academic Affairs Office and hosted by the Department of Basic Teaching, successfully concluded on April 23rd. After fierce competition in multiple rounds, Ma Shuqi from the School of Hospitality Management and Cao Xinwen from the School of Accounting stood out with their outstanding performance and won the first prize.
With the core theme of Chinese voice heard, Chinese stories told, this Contest closely focuses on the strategy of invigorating the country through education. It aims to guide young students to take English as a bridge, inherit excellent traditional Chinese culture, express their patriotic feelings, and clarify the historical mission and contemporary responsibilities of contemporary youth. Open to all students of the college, the competition was carefully prepared, and 11 contestants successfully advanced to the final. At the final scene, the contestants were full of energy and confidence, showing sincere feelings and youthful vitality with their solid English foundation, fluent oral expression and clear logical thinking. In the end, 2 first prizes, 4 second prizes and 5 third prizes were selected.
As an innovative practice measure for ideological and political education in English courses of the Department of Basic Teaching, the Hismile Cup Oral English Contest not only provides students with a platform to show themselves, communicate and improve, but also deeply integrates language learning with value guidance. It effectively stimulates students' enthusiasm and initiative in learning English, and promotes the in-depth integration of English teaching reform and the construction of ideological and political education in courses.
