By Dong Quanyue, Qingdao Vocational and Technical College of Hotel Management

Recently, 15 students from Silla University in South Korea came to our college as the Overseas Chinese Language Research members in the winter vacation of 2019. They will carry out a 22-day language learning and cultural experience in our college. This is the fourth time that Silla University  in South Korea has sent a student research group to our college to study after the year 2013, 2015 and 2018.

At the opening ceremony, Zhou Li, Director of the International Exchange and Cooperation Office, delivered a welcoming speech on behalf of the College. She warmly welcomed the arrival of Korean students and gave a detailed introduction to Qingdao's geographical location, tourism resources, economic development, school running characteristics and international exchanges, especially friendly exchanges with Silla University. She hopes that after a short and rich study, students will further deepen their understanding of Chinese language and culture, become young envoys of cultural exchanges and the spread of civilization between China and South Korea. Lin Hongzhen, the student of the group, expressed their gratitude for the warm reception and good care of our institute, and expressed their expectations for the future study and life here.

This is the fourth time that our institute undertakes the overseas language research project of Silla University. The institute specially gets each student of the Korean Research Group a partner who is going to study in South Korea for exchanges. At the same time, it arranges a variety of learning courses and cultural experience activities, which mainly covers the theoretical content of Chinese basic and spoken language, as well as Chinese traditional adult etiquette and tradition. There’re Tea Art and Flower Art, Chinese Noodles, traditional cultural courses and some field trips such as the visit to Qingdao Museum, May 4th Square and other natural scenery and urban landscape with distinctive island color, from which they appreciate the unique urban charm and cultural atmosphere of Qingdao. A series of courses and cultural experience activities have greatly enriched the life of Korean students, and further deepened their understanding of Chinese language and traditional and modern Chinese culture
